Season 1; Episode 2: Family Tree

Episode 2, Family Tree begins in a sketchy gambling establishment that is owned by Mrs. Gustavson, a woman with hair that would make any Poison fan burn with envy.

 

Yeah... It's pretty similar to that, and FYI Mike had that poster when he was a kid.

 But I digress... 

Mrs. G calls over a man named Joe who works at a craps table to inform him that he's fired and owes her 50K. Her henchman, named Clinch and played by 21 Jump Street star Peter Deluise, stands next to her and repeats every other word she says while trying to look menacing. He breaks Joe's little finger and sends him on his way.

  

Meanwhile, Richie, who has become Robin to Duncan's Batman with little explanation, tries to steal his orphanage records in hopes of finding out who his real parents are. His plans are foiled by an unrealistically fast security guard.  Duncan arrives to bail Richie out and when he learns why Richie was trying to steal from an orphanage, he experiences a 400 year old flash back to the day he first died and became an immortal. 

Duncan was member of a Scottish clan (hence "I am Duncan MacLeod of the clan MacLeod") and was wounded in battle. He died and was resurrected in a dirty hut with a creepy old lady in the corner holding up a crucifix.  Duncan's father does not view this resurrection as a miracle, but as a curse from Satan.

Awesome.

Well, Richie tries to locate his father when he runs in to Joe. You know, from the first scene. Joe pretends to be Richie's father to try and get his scheming hands on something worth 50k from Duncan and Tessa's antique shop. Duncan, who is always right, (seriously... always...) is immediately suspicious of Joe.  He finds out that Joe owes money to Mrs. G and gets to beat up Clinch in the process.  Not wanting to crush Richie's dreams, Duncan let's Richie continue to believe Joe is his father.

 Joe steals a solid gold mask from the shop and Richie tries to track him down and  is abducted up by Clinch in the process. Clinch takes Richie to Mrs.G for an interrogation. Joe who inadvertently  witnessed Richie's kidnapping tries to save him. He shows up at Mrs. G's and gives her the mask in exchange for Richie. Things look pretty bad for Richie and Joe, but Duncan shows up to kick Clinch's ass for the second time and save the day, because he's super cool.
